On September 20, 2023, at approximately 1:03 a.m., the Richmond County Sheriff's Office received a report of a shooting at a residence on Mizpah Road in Rockingham, North Carolina. Upon arrival, deputies found 61-year-old Sylvester Steele lying in the yard with a gunshot wound. Despite emergency medical efforts, Steele was pronounced dead at the scene.
