On July 23, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Richmond County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting on Lincoln Street in Rockingham, North Carolina. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 17-year-old Damarion Antrez Wall suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, Wall succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The following day, investigators released images of a suspect and a distinctive vehicle—a dark-colored SUV with notable features—believed
to be connected to the shooting. With assistance from the Hoke County Sheriff's Office, authorities located the vehicle and apprehended two individuals in Raeford, approximately 40 miles east of Rockingham.
The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Kevin Jonathan Murphy and a 17-year-old male, both residents of Raeford. Both individuals were charged with first-degree murder and transported to Richmond County. Murphy was held without bond at the Richmond County Jail, while the juvenile suspect was placed in a juvenile detention facility.
Damarion Antrez Wall was remembered by family and friends during funeral services held on August 4, 2024, at the Leak Street Cultural Center in Rockingham. Public viewing took place on August 3, 2024, at Nelson Funeral Home. The family requested that attendees refrain from using cell phones or taking pictures during the services, emphasizing their desire for privacy during this difficult time.
The tragic loss of such a young life has deeply affected the Rockingham community, prompting discussions about youth violence and the importance of community engagement in preventing such incidents.
