On September 29, 2023, at approximately 2:20 a.m., North Wilkesboro Police Department officers and Wilkes County Emergency Medical Services responded to a call concerning an individual with unknown issues at 313 L Street in North Wilkesboro. Upon arrival, they discovered 32-year-old Leverne Evan Dupree Johnson lying on the ground outside the residence, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
