On January 23, 2024, 38-year-old Richard (Richie) Andrew Green II of Seagrove, North Carolina, tragically lost his life. Deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to a trespassing report on Osborn Mill Road in Seagrove, where they discovered Green with apparent injuries, including gunshot wounds. Despite immediate CPR efforts by the responding deputy, Green was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an investigation, 50-year-old Tony Elroy Johnson was arrested and charged with felony murder in connection with Green's death. Johnson was detained without bond and scheduled for a court appearance on January 24, 2024. Authorities have stated that no additional suspects are being sought in relation to this case.
Richard Green II was remembered as a loving son, father, brother, uncle, and friend, known for his contagious laugh. He had pursued education at Randolph Community College and Forsyth Technical Community College, focusing on computer technology. Green had also been baptized at the Winston Salem Rescue Mission, where he resided for over five years.
The investigation into Green's death is ongoing. Authorities have urged anyone with additional information to contact the Randolph County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division or Randolph County Crime Stoppers.
