On February 5, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., deputies from the Robeson County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of Fodiesville Road in Shannon, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 31-year-old Lisa Marie Chavis deceased at the scene. Another victim, 30-year-old Linnie B. Locklear Jr., was found injured and transported to UNC Southeastern Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation led to the identification of suspects involved in the double homicide. On February 7, 2024, 36-year-old Jamont B. Smith of Red Springs surrendered to authorities. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and felony conspiracy and was held at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond.
Subsequently, on February 13, 2024, a second suspect, 30-year-old Daniel Hicks of Red Springs, was apprehended. He was located at an abandoned house near Lumberton and also charged with two counts of first-degree murder and felony conspiracy. Hicks was detained at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond.
The Robeson County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, continues to investigate the case. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing and have urged anyone with information to contact the Robeson County Sheriff's Office.
