On March 2, 2024, a tragic shooting occurred at The Commons at Pembroke Apartment Complex near the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP), resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including 22-year-old Cameron "Cam" Blake Taylor. Cameron was a sophomore nursing major at UNCP and a member of the Eta Upsilon chapter of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity.
