On March 25, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Alexander County 911 received a call reporting a shooting at 295 Old Mountain Village Drive in Hiddenite, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers found 33-year-old Pang Vue Yee, a resident of Newton, with a single gunshot wound to his chest. Despite being transported to a local hospital, Vue Yee was pronounced deceased.
Investigators conducted a search warrant at the residence, leading to the arrest of 46-year-old Jason Henry Fidler of Hiddenite. Fidler was charged with felony murder and is being held at the Alexander County Detention Center without bond, with a first court appearance scheduled for April 1, 2024.
Further investigation identified 18-year-old Karla Breanna Freeland of Statesville as a second suspect. Freeland was apprehended on March 26, 2024, and charged with felony murder. During processing, authorities found drugs in her possession, resulting in additional charges of felony possession of a controlled substance on jail premises and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She is being held without bond for the murder charge and has a $10,000 bond for the drug-related charges.
A third individual, 35-year-old Brandon Allan Blevins of Taylorsville, was later arrested and charged with felony obstruction of justice in connection to the case. Blevins is being held at the Alexander County Detention Center under a secured bond of $15,000.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting. Sheriff Chad Pennell noted that Freeland and Vue Yee were involved in a relationship and confirmed that the suspected murder weapon has been located.
The tragic death of Pang Vue Yee has deeply affected the local community. Born on August 7, 1990, in Fresno, California, he was a beloved father of two children and a cherished son, brother, and friend. His unexpected passing has left a void in the lives of those who knew him.
