On April 6, 2024, 38-year-old Jonathan Durell Solomon from Baltimore, Maryland, was fatally shot in Flat Rock, Henderson County, North Carolina. The Henderson County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit responded to the incident, identifying Solomon as the deceased. Sheriff Lowell Griffin assured the public that there was no ongoing threat, emphasizing the investigation's active status.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene in the early morning hours. Carey Miller, a nearby resident, recounted seeing a body lying in the grass illuminated by floodlights and noted the presence of multiple sheriff's cars and police tape around the building. Another neighbor mentioned hearing gunshots, initially mistaking them for sounds from a television program, only to realize the gravity of the situation upon stepping outside.
The investigation revealed that Solomon suffered a gunshot wound to the chest while fleeing an altercation at an apartment complex on Greenville Highway. He was shot around 12:42 a.m. and succumbed to his injuries approximately 30 minutes later. In the days following the incident, the case was presented to the District Attorney's Office. District Attorney Andrew Murray determined that no probable cause existed to issue criminal charges related to Solomon's death. Solomon's death certificate indicates he was an Asheville resident employed as a truck driver for a delivery company. Funeral arrangements were handled by Wylie Funeral Home in Baltimore, Maryland, with services held on April 20, 2024.
