On April 14, 2024, at approximately 5:52 a.m., deputies from the Robeson County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Levi Road in Rowland, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 36-year-old Lydia Ann Hoyos deceased inside her home from apparent gunshot wounds.
Ms. Hoyos, known affectionately as "Lyb," was born on August 13, 1987, to Mr. Joe Hoyos and Mrs. Darlene Dial Locklear. She was recognized for her strong work ethic and dedication to providing for her family, holding positions at Regional Home, Regional Modulars, and Marty Wright Home Sales. She held a degree in Criminal Justice and was known for her love of playing the wooden flute, modeling, swimming, and spending time with family and friends. She was also referred to as "Lumbee Pocahontas" by those close to her.
The primary suspect in Ms. Hoyos' death was identified as 38-year-old Scotti Dewayne Tyler, with whom she had recently been in a relationship; they shared two children. Following the incident, Tyler was apprehended on April 17, 2024, during a traffic stop on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Lumberton. He was charged with first-degree murder and nine counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling. Tyler was subsequently held at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond.
In the wake of Ms. Hoyos' tragic passing, a GoFundMe campaign was established to assist with funeral expenses and to provide support for her three children. The community mourned the loss of a woman remembered for her devotion to her family, her faith, and her efforts to create a better future for her loved ones.
