On the evening of May 5, 2024, 26-year-old Antelmo Bryan Salinas Martinez of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was fatally shot while driving on U.S. Highway 158 near the Yadkin River bridge, close to the Forsyth County line. The incident began around 8:30 p.m. at Truist Soccer Park, a sports complex in Davie County, where Martinez and three companions were attending a youth soccer match.
As they departed in a white Dodge Charger, a red or burgundy Dodge Charger with a plastic-covered driver's side rear window and a rear spoiler began to follow them.
While traveling toward Forsyth County, occupants of the red Charger opened fire on Martinez's vehicle as it crossed the bridge. Martinez, who was driving, was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. A 17-year-old female passenger sustained a gunshot wound, received treatment at a hospital, and was subsequently released. The other two passengers were unharmed.
The suspects fled toward Winston-Salem in the red Dodge Charger. Authorities have not identified any suspects or made arrests in connection with the shooting. The Davie County Sheriff's Office has appealed to the public for information, particularly from anyone who witnessed the vehicles or individuals involved at Truist Soccer Park before the incident. Martinez was remembered as a hardworking individual with aspirations of expanding his plumbing business to support his family. He cherished time with family and friends and had a passion for cars. His unexpected death has left his family and community in mourning. Funeral services were held on May 11, 2024, at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, followed by burial at Mt. Gur Cemetery in Kernersville, North Carolina.
In the wake of this tragedy, Martinez's family initiated a fundraising campaign to cover funeral expenses and honor his memory. They described him as a good son, brother, boyfriend, and a beautiful human being whose life was tragically cut short.
