William David Wood, a 23-year-old male police officer with the Advance Police Department in North Carolina, tragically lost his life on June 8, 1901. Officer Wood was shot and killed by an intoxicated man who was firing a gun on a public street. When Officer Wood ordered the man to stop, the suspect turned the gun on him, resulting in his death.
