On July 2, 2024, 63-year-old Teresa Anita Polk was found deceased in her home on John Dale Lane in Charlotte, North Carolina. Responding to a call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon, officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) discovered both Ms. Polk and her husband, 65-year-old Michael Eugene Ewing Sr., dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigations revealed that the couple had been involved in a fatal altercation, during which Mr.
Ewing allegedly shot and killed Ms. Polk before taking his own life. The CMPD classified the incident as a murder-suicide, identifying Mr. Ewing as the suspect in Ms. Polk's death. Due to his death, the case was closed with no further charges filed.
Ms. Polk was a former Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent and a grandmother, remembered fondly by her colleagues and community. Her funeral service was held on July 13, 2024, at Sherman Memorial Church of God in Christ in Charlotte, where family and friends gathered to honor her memory.
