On July 30, 2024, at approximately 4 p.m., Pilot Mountain Police responded to a reported domestic disturbance and shooting at 800 West Main Street, near East Surry High School. Upon arrival, officers found 36-year-old William "Curry" Sprinkle Jr. of Pinnacle, North Carolina, in the front yard with a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by officers and Surry County EMS, Sprinkle was pronounced dead at the scene.
