On August 3, 2024, at approximately 3:15 a.m., 21-year-old Caleb Turner was fatally shot during a large house party in the 1900 block of Exum Road near Nashville, North Carolina. According to the Nash County Sheriff's Office, Turner was targeted in an attempted robbery by three individuals who sought to steal his firearm. During the confrontation, Turner's gun was taken and used against him, resulting in multiple gunshot wounds that led to his death at the scene.
The suspects involved in this incident were identified as 20-year-olds Elijah Kevon Battle and Yasun Jaquavious Powell, both from Rocky Mount, along with a 17-year-old juvenile whose name has not been disclosed due to age. The juvenile was apprehended on the evening of August 3, 2024, and placed in a secure custody facility, facing charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery. Subsequently, on August 5, 2024, Battle and Powell surrendered to authorities and were charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Both are being held without bond in separate detention centers.
