On August 6, 2024, 33-year-old Jaquin Kymane Bethea Jr. was fatally shot in Supply, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 6:25 p.m. at a residence on Ridge Road, where officers found Bethea deceased from a gunshot wound.
According to reports, the events leading to the shooting began with a dice game in which Bryan Goodwin, 30, suffered a loss. Goodwin allegedly left the scene, retrieved a firearm, and returned to confront those present.
Bethea, known for his jovial nature, attempted to defuse the escalating situation by humorously telling Goodwin to "put that little gun up, bruh." Tragically, Goodwin responded by shooting Bethea.
In the aftermath, chaos ensued as attendees fled, leaving Bethea mortally wounded. Goodwin, identified as the primary suspect, remains at large. The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning, declaring him armed and dangerous. He is described as a 30-year-old man, standing 5 feet 7 inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes.
Bethea's family, along with community organizations, have held rallies to honor his memory and urge authorities to intensify efforts to apprehend Goodwin. A reward of $2,500 has been offered for information leading to his arrest. Despite these efforts, as of December 2024, Goodwin remains at large, and the investigation continues.
