On September 1, 2024, at approximately 6:13 a.m., Greensboro police responded to reports of a gunshot wound on the ground floor of a parking deck located in the 300 block of North Greene Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 20-year-old Joseph Minor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services transported Minor to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident was captured on surveillance footage, which showed Minor engaging in a confrontation with another individual. According to Minor's mother, Tiffiney Peele, the two appeared to know each other and exchanged words before the situation escalated. The suspect reportedly displayed a firearm during the altercation, leading to a physical struggle. The video then shows the suspect moving out of the camera's view, followed by muzzle flashes indicating gunfire.
On September 12, 2024, Greensboro police arrested 20-year-old Darian W. Larry in connection with Minor's death. Larry was charged with first-degree murder and is currently being held in the Guilford County Jail without bond.
Joseph Minor was remembered by his family as a compassionate individual who was always willing to help others. His mother described him as "the man in my family" following the passing of his father, highlighting the significant role he played in supporting his loved ones.
