On September 15, 2024, in Pfafftown, North Carolina, 55-year-old resident Brian Kermit Bare was found deceased from multiple gunshot wounds at his home on Kecoughtan Road.
The following day, September 16, 2024, Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies arrested 46-year-old Omar Moore Lozada of Winston-Salem in connection with Bare's death. Lozada was charged with felony murder, second-degree kidnapping, discharging a weapon into occupied property, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
He was taken into custody at the Forsyth County Detention Center without bond.
On September 17, 2024, Lozada made his first court appearance, where a judge informed him of the charges and the potential penalties, including the possibility of the death penalty for the felony murder charge. The court scheduled his next appearance for October 3, 2024.
Authorities have not disclosed whether Bare and Lozada knew each other or provided information regarding a possible motive. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office has stated that the incident appears to be isolated, with no ongoing threat to the community.
