On October 15, 2024, at approximately 2:21 a.m., Greensboro police responded to a reported shooting at a residence on Niagara Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 28-year-old Brianna Laray Lee in an upstairs bedroom, suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The initial investigation led to the arrest of 27-year-old Cheavez Ajee Clapp, who was charged with attempted first-degree murder and possession of
a firearm by a convicted felon. Clapp and Lee were known to be in a personal relationship, and evidence suggested the incident was domestic violence-related. Authorities found a Glock 19 9mm handgun hidden in a bedroom closet, along with live rounds and magazines behind a damaged headboard.
Tragically, on October 19, 2024, Brianna Lee succumbed to her injuries. Consequently, charges against Clapp were elevated to first-degree murder. During court proceedings, it was revealed that Clapp had called 911, claiming that Lee had been outside smoking and returned indoors with a gunshot wound. However, investigators found a note written by Lee indicating her intention to end her relationship with Clapp, casting doubt on his account of events.

Family members described Brianna as a loving mother of two young boys, a daughter, and a sister who brought joy to those around her.
