On May 22, 2023, at approximately 11:11 a.m., Schenectady police conducted a welfare check at 953 Crane Street in the Mont Pleasant neighborhood. Inside the residence, they discovered the body of 30-year-old Philomen L. Henry, who had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. This incident marked the city's first homicide of the year.
