On the evening of May 3, 2024, a 27-year-old Black female named Kimberlin Gatewood was left at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, New York, with a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of medical staff, she succumbed to her injuries, marking another tragic chapter in her family's history, which had already been marred by the violent deaths of several siblings. Kimberlin, a mother with dreams of becoming a police officer, was remembered for her bright personality and infectious laugh.
