On a summer afternoon in Buffalo, New York, the life of 21-year-old Kabah Kabah was tragically cut short. On August 3, 2024, at approximately 1:30 p.m., police responded to a shooting on Bird Avenue. There they found Kabah, a male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased.
A few minutes after the shooting, a Buffalo Police officer spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the one that
fled the scene. The officer pursued the vehicle as it traveled along Route 198, the Kensington Expressway, and eventually onto the Route 5 Skyway. During the chase, occupants of the vehicle were seen throwing what appeared to be handguns out of the window. The pursuit ended near the Fuhrmann Boulevard exit, where officers stopped the car and took the three occupants into custody.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 38-year-old Edward Harwell of Buffalo. The two passengers were a 17-year-old male and another individual. Investigators recovered two loaded firearms along the path of the vehicle pursuit. Subsequent DNA analysis linked Harwell to the weapons. He was indicted on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
In April 2025, Edward Harwell pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Manslaughter in the First Degree, as well as two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. On July 2, 2025, he was sentenced to 22 years in prison, to be followed by five years of post-release supervision. One of the passengers, who was 18 by the time of his conviction, pleaded guilty to two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon and was sentenced as a youthful offender to six months in jail and five years of probation. The case against the third individual was dismissed.
