On January 20, 2023, the life of Micah Jordan Aman, a 20-year-old Black / African American male from Columbia, Missouri, came to a violent end in Osage Beach. That Friday evening, around 8:25 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the 4100 block of Sunset Drive following reports of a shooting. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered Aman lying in a grassy area, suffering from severe gunshot wounds.
He was immediately transported by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital for emergency treatment, but despite medical efforts, he was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival.
At the same scene, officers located a second individual who had also been struck by gunfire. Devin Atkisson, a 19-year-old resident of Osage Beach, was found with gunshot wounds to his chest and leg. Atkisson received medical attention on-site before being hospitalized for his injuries. The discovery of two wounded young men in close proximity prompted an immediate and intensive investigation by the Osage Beach Police Department into the events leading up to the violence.
Lieutenant Michael O'Day of the Osage Beach Police Department later provided details regarding the circumstances of the incident, stating that the preliminary investigation suggested Aman and Atkisson had been shooting at one another. While detectives worked to piece together the timeline, the specific motive behind the confrontation remained unclear, though authorities stated they did not believe the shooting was the result of a robbery. Police indicated that there was a possibility that multiple individuals were involved in the altercation beyond the two men found at the scene.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the investigation remained active as detectives followed up on leads and conducted witness interviews to determine the full scope of the incident. Despite the identification of the individuals involved in the exchange of gunfire, public reports from the time indicated that no arrests had been made and no formal charges had been filed against any suspects in connection with Aman's death. The Osage Beach Police Department continued to appeal to the public for any information that could assist in resolving the case.
