He was a hard worker and a member of his high school's FFA/Ag Science program.
The events leading to Dakota's untimely death began to unfold at a house where he had gathered with two other individuals, one of whom was Tyler Tennis. The group was reportedly drinking alcohol and handling firearms. According to the Webster County Sheriff, the situation took a fatal turn when Tennis, who is in his 20s, was handling a gun. A witness stated that the slide on the weapon was locked back, and at some point, Tennis pointed it at Dakota and hit the trigger, causing the gun to discharge.
The single gunshot resulted in Dakota Wadlington's death, a loss that has been described as a reckless and heartbreaking tragedy. While the sheriff has indicated that he does not believe there was malicious intent, the act was deemed reckless. Dakota's mother, Kelli Wadlington, expressed her shock and confusion, stating that she was led to believe the people involved were some of her son's closest friends.
