In the late summer of 2018, the life of 41-year-old Samuel Biggs, a male resident of Rogersville, Missouri, came to a tragic and violent end. On September 8th, Greene County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a residence after receiving a 911 call from a woman who claimed she had shot her boyfriend. Upon arrival, they discovered Biggs with a gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The woman who made the distressing call was identified as his 45-year-old girlfriend, Melanie Spencer. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Spencer was not at the scene. However, law enforcement was able to track her down by pinging her cell phone. She was taken into custody and initially charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
As the investigation into Samuel Biggs' death progressed, a chilling detail emerged: Spencer had reportedly recorded the fatal shooting. Following Biggs' death, the charges against Spencer were upgraded. In a turn of events that brought a conclusion to the nearly four-year-long legal process, Melanie Spencer, then 49, appeared in court and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. For her role in the death of Samuel Biggs, she was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
