On November 15, 2023, 18-year-old Kareem Z. Hassan of Kansas City, Missouri, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Wendy's restaurant located at 1400 Platte Falls Road in Platte City. The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m., when police responded to reports of gunfire and found Hassan and his brother, both suffering from gunshot wounds, on the south side of the parking lot.
