An evening in November turned tragic in the parking lot of a Platte City, Missouri, Wendy's, ending the life of 18-year-old Kareem Z. Hassan. On November 15, 2023, Hassan, a male, and his brother were involved in a shooting that left Hassan dead and his brother critically injured. The two were found with gunshot wounds, Hassan having been shot in the head and his brother in the neck.
The incident unfolded around 6:30 p.m. at the fast-food restaurant located at 1400 Platte Falls Road.
Investigations by the Platte City Police Department, with assistance from the Kansas City Metro Squad, quickly pointed to a prearranged meeting that turned violent. Authorities determined that the Hassan brothers had arranged to meet an individual for a marijuana transaction. Surveillance footage from the area showed the brothers in their silver Ford Mustang meeting with a silver SUV in the Wendy's parking lot. Shortly after the meeting, the SUV was seen speeding away, leaving the two brothers lying on the ground.
Investigators were able to identify a suspect through a Snapchat conversation found on one of the victim's phones. The messages detailed an agreement to purchase two ounces of marijuana. This digital trail, along with cellphone records placing him in the vicinity at the time of the shooting, led police to 22-year-old Terrion M. Gully-Henry of Leavenworth.
Gully-Henry was arrested and initially charged with attempting to deliver a controlled substance. Following further investigation, the charges were upgraded to include second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He has been held in the Platte County jail without bond. At his arraignment, pleas of not guilty were entered on his behalf. A request for a bond reduction was later denied, and he remains in custody awaiting trial.
