In the quiet community of Doniphan, Missouri, the lives of 50-year-old Eric Pudivitir and his wife were tragically cut short. On the morning of Saturday, January 13, 2024, authorities were called to their rural Ripley County home following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they made a grim discovery: the bodies of Eric and his 44-year-old wife, Kathryn Ann Pudivitir. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds in what was quickly determined to be a double homicide. Eric was a White male.
The couple, who had been married since 2002, were known throughout their community for their open hearts and willingness to help anyone in need, making the sudden violence that ended their lives all the more shocking to those who knew them.
The response from law enforcement was swift and collaborative. The Ripley County Major Case Squad, a combined force that included the Ripley County Sheriff's Office, Doniphan Police Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, was activated to hunt for the person responsible for this violent act. Their investigation quickly led them to a suspect, and on the very next day, January 14, 2024, an arrest was made. Nineteen-year-old Dillon Andrew Leroux, a resident of Doniphan, was taken into custody in connection with the murders.
Following his arrest, the Ripley County Prosecuting Attorney formally charged Leroux with a litany of serious offenses. He faces two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Eric and Kathryn Pudivitir. In addition to the murder charges, he was also charged with two counts of armed criminal action, first-degree burglary, and unlawful use of a weapon. It was reported that Leroux admitted to investigators that he had entered the couple's home and shot them. He was subsequently held in the Ripley County Jail without bond, awaiting his initial court appearance that was scheduled for January 17, 2024. The motive for this brutal crime has not been publicly disclosed by authorities as the investigation continues.
