On March 2, 2024, 60-year-old Gregory Dell Van Pelt of Monroe City, Missouri, was fatally shot in the chest near Mark Twain Lake. The Ralls County Sheriff's Office responded to a firearms call at 43996 Willow Lane, where they found Van Pelt injured. Despite receiving medical treatment at the scene, he succumbed to his injuries.
