In the quiet suburban town of South Plainfield, New Jersey, a tragic event unfolded on the morning of November 27, 2023, shattering the peace of the community. Dilipkumar Brahmbhatt, a 72-year-old man of Indian descent, was found deceased in his home on Coppola Drive. The discovery was made after authorities responded to a report of gunfire at the residence around 9:00 A.M.
Upon entering the home, law enforcement found a grim scene. Dilipkumar Brahmbhatt and his wife, Bindu Brahmbhatt, also 72, had both sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. Their 38-year-old son, Yashkumar Brahmbhatt, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The family resided together in a condominium within the 'Traditions' complex.
The investigation into the triple homicide quickly focused on a family member who also lived in the home.
Om Brahmbhatt, the 23-year-old grandson of Dilipkumar and Bindu and nephew of Yashkumar, was present at the residence when police arrived. He was subsequently arrested without incident in connection with the killings. Authorities have stated that the act was not random and posed no further threat to the public.
Om Brahmbhatt has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and weapons offenses. According to reports, he allegedly used a handgun that he had purchased online. It is alleged that he shot his grandparents while they were asleep. Following the incident, Om Brahmbhatt himself is reported to have called 911. He is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center awaiting a pre-trial detention hearing.
