In the late hours of a Saturday night in Savannah, Georgia, on November 22, 2014, the life of 12-year-old Keith David Passmore was tragically cut short. The young boy, a student at Myers Middle School who had a passion for basketball, was attending a party with approximately 30 other people in the 2200 block of Vicksburg Drive.
Keith was sitting inside a parked truck with his older cousin, Christopher Martin, when an unknown individual approached the vehicle.
The person, described in some reports as a Black male dressed in all black, banged on the passenger door, demanding they open up. When Martin started the truck to drive away, the assailant opened fire. Martin sped off, and it was only after reaching Skidaway Road that he realized his young cousin was slumped over in the passenger seat, unresponsive. Keith was rushed to Memorial University Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries.
In the days and years that followed, Keith's family has been left with unanswered questions and the enduring pain of their loss. Investigators from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department faced challenges in the case, citing a lack of cooperation from many of the individuals who were at the party. The family has expressed their belief that Keith may have been associating with an older crowd and that they had been trying to steer him away from those friendships.
Despite the passage of time, no arrests have been made in connection with Keith Passmore's murder, and his case is now considered a cold case. His mother, Tammy Carter, has made repeated public pleas for anyone with information to come forward, hoping that someone's conscience will lead them to break their silence and provide the clue that could finally bring justice for her son. A cash reward for information leading to an arrest remains available as the family continues to hope for closure.
