On July 9, 2023, 20-year-old Martinsville resident Nyjeon Dameae Brandon was fatally shot while traveling as a passenger in a vehicle along the 300 block of Commonwealth Boulevard. At approximately 2:25 a.m., private citizens transported him to Sovah Health Martinsville Emergency Room, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
