On a late summer afternoon in 2023, the life of 33-year-old Michael Wayne Harris, a male resident of Gordonsville, Virginia, was tragically cut short. On September 10th, events unfolded that would lead to his untimely death and a subsequent homicide investigation by the Louisa County Sheriff's Office. Harris, a mechanic known as a loving husband and father, was shot at a residence in the 5000 block of South Spotswood Trail.
Following the shooting, he was driven approximately three miles to another location in the 2100 block of the same road in an attempt to get him medical assistance. It was there that he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Harris's death quickly led to the identification of a suspect. The day after the fatal shooting, Kenneth Justino Rowley, a 35-year-old from Louisa, turned himself in to authorities. The Louisa County Sheriff's Office had determined that Rowley was an acquaintance of Harris, though the specific circumstances that led to the deadly encounter were not immediately made public. Following his surrender, Rowley was arrested and faced charges related to the death of Michael Wayne Harris.
The legal proceedings against Kenneth Justino Rowley, however, would not reach a conclusion in a courtroom. On December 18, 2024, before a trial could take place, Rowley was killed in a head-on car crash on Route 15 in Louisa County. According to the Virginia State Police, the vehicle driven by Rowley crossed the center line and collided with another car. Rowley succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, bringing an unexpected and somber end to the criminal case in the death of Michael Wayne Harris.
