On March 5, 2024, 32-year-old Zachary Cody Boyd was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Walmart in Lebanon, Virginia. The incident began when 70-year-old Dennis Gilbert confronted Boyd, left the scene, and then returned. Upon his return, an argument ensued during which Boyd pushed Gilbert, who then drew a firearm and shot Boyd. Boyd was transported to Russell County Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
