In the late morning of May 15, 2024, a transaction believed to be a drug deal in a busy Centreville, Virginia shopping center parking lot escalated into a fatal exchange of gunfire. The incident, which unfolded around 9:30 a.m. in the 14600 block of U.S. 29, left 18-year-old Michael Alcantara of Manassas dead at the scene from gunshot wounds to his upper body.
