On January 5, 2023, 25-year-old Nakita Monet Baxter was found deceased in her residence at Westwood Apartments in Manning, South Carolina. Authorities responded to reports of gunshots shortly before midnight and, upon arrival, heard an infant crying inside the apartment. After making a forced entry, they discovered Baxter and 32-year-old Dezmond A. Mitchell dead in the living room, with the unharmed infant nearby.
