On a Saturday afternoon, a day that should have been filled with celebration, 76-year-old Betty Diane Amick was tragically killed in a senseless act of violence in Taylors, South Carolina. The white female was a passenger in a car, on the way to her own birthday dinner on January 7, 2023, when a road rage incident escalated with fatal consequences.
The vehicle she was in had stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Wade Hampton Boulevard and Edwards Mill Road.
An altercation then erupted with an occupant of another vehicle. During this dispute, a man in the other car reportedly fired into the vehicle carrying Amick. She was struck by a gunshot to the chest and was pronounced dead at a nearby location shortly after the incident, which occurred around 4 p.m.
In the wake of the shooting, authorities quickly identified a suspect. Jonathan Brock Luben, 26 years old at the time, was promptly arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. He was taken into custody and booked at the Greenville County Detention Center.
Luben faced a string of serious charges stemming from the incident. These included murder for the death of Betty Amick, as well as attempted murder. Additionally, he was charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime and first-degree assault and battery. Following his arrest, he was held without bond.
