Sadiyya Salim, a 40-year-old mother, was fatally shot outside her residence on Plantation Drive in Little River, South Carolina, on the evening of May 4, 2023. The incident, which occurred around 8:30 p.m., also resulted in injuries to another individual who was taken to the hospital. Salim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the shooting, an investigation led to the arrest of five people.
Among them were 18-year-old Elyjah Herbert and 20-year-old Haley Taylor, who were charged with murder and accessory after the fact to a felony. Another individual, 20-year-old Dimik Stevenson of Aynor, was also charged in the fatal shooting.
The legal proceedings following the arrests resulted in convictions and significant prison sentences for those involved. Dimik Stevenson was sentenced to two 30-year prison terms for murder and attempted murder. Due to the nature of the murder charge, Stevenson will not be eligible for parole. Haley Taylor pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to murder and received a seven-year prison sentence. Elijah Hebert, another co-defendant, pleaded guilty to the same charge in the previous year and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The prosecution expressed appreciation for the defendant accepting responsibility and thanked the Horry County Police Department for their work on the investigation.
