On June 28, 2023, 39-year-old John Thomas Belote of Graniteville, South Carolina, was reported missing by his daughter. Nearly three weeks later, on July 17, authorities discovered human remains in a shallow grave near the 300 block of Wendy Lane in Windsor, close to Aiken State Park. Through DNA testing, the Aiken County Coroner's Office confirmed the remains as those of Belote, determining that he had died from multiple gunshot wounds.
