In the quiet, pre-dawn hours of Saturday, November 8, 2025, the sense of community in Windsor, South Carolina, was shattered by an act of violence. In the stillness of Windsor Recreational Park, a ten-acre expanse of playgrounds and open fields on Old School Road, the body of 29-year-old Jamal Richardson was discovered. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:35 a.m.
Friends and family remembered Jamal Richardson, a male native of Aiken County, as
a man with 'the biggest heart,' a devoted father, son, and friend who was 'down to earth.' He was a father to three children: a daughter, Kai’ahna Richardson, and two sons, Kashton and Za’marion Richardson. His sudden and violent death left a void in the lives of his loved ones and sent ripples of grief and shock throughout the close-knit community. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed in Newberry to learn more about the circumstances of his death.
The Aiken County Sheriff's Office immediately launched a homicide investigation, with the park becoming a crime scene as investigators searched for evidence. In the days that followed, the community mourned, leaving flowers and notes at the park in his memory. The investigation led to a significant development on November 25, 2025, with the arrest of 21-year-old Christopher Jamal James of Aiken.
Investigators believe that James, along with an unnamed co-defendant, lured Richardson to the park with the intent to rob him. During the commission of the robbery, Richardson was shot in the chest. Christopher Jamal James was taken into custody and charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He is currently being held at the Aiken County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
