In the quiet town of Hemingway, South Carolina, the life of 24-year-old JaQuan Shamar Julious, a Black male, was tragically cut short on September 10, 2023. On that day, multiple armed individuals forced their way into a residence on Chair Road in what authorities have described as a home invasion. The intruders made demands of the occupants before a firearm was discharged, fatally wounding Julious.
The Williamsburg County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation that led to the
arrests of four individuals in connection with the fatal shooting. Shane Sharod Singletary, 25, of Georgetown, and Jakee Shyre Tavaris Green, 25, of Conway, were charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, first-degree burglary, five counts of armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Investigators believe that Singletary and Green were the two who entered the home, confronted the occupants, and ultimately shot Julious.
Also arrested were 21-year-old Ariyan Jahne Pickett of Myrtle Beach and 47-year-old Fredrick Donell Lewis of Nesmith. Pickett was charged with accessory before the fact of murder, accessory after the fact of murder, criminal conspiracy, five counts of armed robbery, and first-degree burglary, for her alleged role as the driver. Lewis faces charges of accessory after the fact of murder, criminal conspiracy, first-degree burglary, and five counts of armed robbery, accused of escorting Singletary and Green to the residence with the intent to commit robbery.
In the wake of his death, JaQuan Shamar Julious is remembered by his family and friends as a loving father. A GoFundMe campaign was started to raise money for a reward for information leading to arrests in the case, highlighting the community's desire for justice. Funeral services for Julious were held on September 17, 2023, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Andrews, South Carolina.
