On a quiet street on Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, concern grew for 41-year-old Christiana Alkire and her housemate, 38-year-old David Gardner. Family members had not seen or heard from them in several days, which was described as being out of character. This unsettling silence prompted a call to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office for a welfare check on the evening of Friday, March 22, 2024.
Shortly after 9 p.m., deputies arrived at the Pearl Harbor Lane home.
Upon entering the residence, they discovered a tragic scene. Both Christiana and David were found deceased inside the home. The Beaufort County Coroner's Office later confirmed that both had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators have indicated that the preliminary information suggests that this was a double murder.
Authorities have stated that there were no signs of forced entry into the home, and it does not appear that robbery was a motive.
