In the summer of 2016, a young man's life was cut tragically short on a sidewalk in southwest Atlanta. Eighteen-year-old Quintin Williams was walking along Waters Road near Hapeville Road on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 5th, when a vehicle approached. Someone from inside the car opened fire, striking Williams twice. First responders found him lying on the sidewalk, bleeding from his wounds.
He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
Family members were left reeling from the sudden and violent loss of a young man who was just beginning to build a life for himself. His mother described him as someone who loved everybody and was working hard to be independent and enjoy life. She shared that he had recently earned his GED and had just started his first job at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. He was excited about his future and the opportunities that lay ahead.
The Atlanta Police Department immediately began an investigation into the shooting. They reported that Williams was the intended target, but at the time of the initial reports, a suspect had not been publicly identified, and no arrests had been made. The motive for the shooting was also unclear. The investigation was reported as ongoing, as authorities sought to bring to justice the person or persons responsible for the death of Quintin Williams.
