In the small town of Shelby, Mississippi, the life of 29-year-old Elvester Trotter, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On January 6, 2023, Bolivar County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call and discovered Trotter's body lying in the roadway; he had been shot multiple times.
The investigation into Trotter's death quickly led to the identification of two suspects. Initially, on January 13, 2023, the Bolivar County Sheriff's Office charged 25-year-old Kentarius Allen with murder.
Allen is currently in custody at the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility. As the investigation progressed, a second individual, 32-year-old Jabroski Lloyd, emerged as the primary suspect. A warrant for Lloyd's arrest on the charge of murder was issued on January 12, 2023.
Following the issuance of the warrant, a manhunt for Lloyd was initiated, with the U.S. Marshals Service joining the effort. Lloyd managed to evade authorities for nearly four months. The search for him extended beyond Mississippi, as information developed that he had fled to the Memphis, Tennessee area.
The pursuit of Jabroski Lloyd came to an end on May 1, 2023. Acting on information, the U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force and Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies surrounded a room at the Governor's Inn in Memphis. After deputies announced their presence, they entered the room and found Lloyd hiding under a bed. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Shelby County Jail to await extradition back to Mississippi to face the murder charge.
