On a tragic Friday afternoon in Hamilton, Mississippi, the life of 24-year-old Jasmine Elise Betts of Columbus was cut short. On April 7, 2023, she was discovered deceased alongside 25-year-old Drucilla Blevins of Hamilton. Both women had sustained fatal single gunshot wounds. Emergency responders found them lying in the street on Harris Road after receiving a 911 call about two people being shot at approximately 2:40 p.m.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating the deaths, which are believed to be the result of a domestic dispute that escalated into gunfire. Investigators have suggested the incident may have been a murder-suicide. They believe only one person fired the weapon, and that individual is one of the two deceased women. Law enforcement has stated they are not searching for any other suspects and that there is no ongoing danger to the public. A single weapon was found at the scene. The bodies of both women were sent to the state medical examiner's office in Pearl for autopsies to learn more about the circumstances of their deaths.

Jasmine Betts was born in Lowndes County, Mississippi, on January 19, 1999. She attended Caledonia High School and ICC College. At the time of her passing, she was employed at Systems Automotive Interiors in Mantachie, Mississippi. She was a member of God's Anointed People Ministries and the Dat Way Social Club. Her death has left the communities of Columbus and Hamilton in a state of shock.
