In the spring of 2023, the community of Laurel, Mississippi, was shaken by the violent death of 22-year-old D'Allen Smith, a Black / African American man. On the evening of April 24th, Laurel police officers responded to a call of a shooting. Upon their arrival at the scene, they discovered Smith suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
