On a summer evening in the small community of Tchula, Mississippi, the life of 18-year-old Justin Thompson was tragically cut short. On June 2, 2024, Thompson was the victim of a fatal drive-by shooting in the Gwen community. The incident was one of two separate, fatal drive-by shootings that occurred in Holmes County on the same night, unsettling the rural area.
Law enforcement officials with the Holmes County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they are investigating the shooting as a
homicide. As of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with Thompson's death, and authorities had not publicly identified any suspects or a potential motive for the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as deputies continue to seek information from the public.
Hours after the shooting that claimed Thompson's life, another drive-by shooting occurred in the nearby city of Lexington, resulting in the death of 36-year-old Jamarcus Liddell Smith.
