In the small town of Brooksville, Mississippi, the life of 30-year-old Glenn Omar Dooley Jr. was cut short in a burst of violence that has left his family searching for answers. Known affectionately as 'Lil Glenn,' he was a Black / African American man who was well-loved for his ability to share fun and laughter. A 2011 graduate of Noxubee County High School, Dooley had ventured out to cities like Las Vegas and Boston for work and was the father to a son named Princeton.
On the early
morning of Monday, September 18, 2023, Dooley was walking down Martin Luther King Jr. Drive when a dark-colored vehicle reportedly drove by. Gunfire erupted from the vehicle, and Dooley was struck in the head. In the chaotic aftermath, it was discovered that two nearby homes had also been damaged by the hail of bullets. Dooley was rushed to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, but his injuries proved fatal, and he passed away the following day, on September 19, 2023.
The investigation into the drive-by shooting was immediately launched by the Brooksville Police Department. While no arrests have been made in the case, authorities have indicated that they have identified a few people of interest. The police chief has stated that they are waiting for results from the crime lab and are focused on building a strong case to ensure a conviction rather than just making a quick arrest. They are determined to apprehend the correct individuals responsible for Dooley's death.
In the wake of her son's murder, Annie Dooley has made public pleas for justice. She described the harrowing moment she found her son lying on the ground, covered in blood, and her immediate instinct to kneel and pray over him. She has expressed the profound pain of losing a child to gun violence and has urged the community to come forward with any information they might have.
