In the town of Goodman, Mississippi, on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, the life of 17-year-old Clyzavion Landfair, also known as Gypson, was tragically cut short in a hail of gunfire. A promising multi-sport athlete who played both football and basketball for Holmes County Central High School, Landfair's sudden death sent shockwaves through his community.
The incident unfolded around noon at the intersection of Highway 14 and Highway 51, beginning near a BP Gas Station.
The vehicle carrying Landfair and three other individuals was pursued by another car for approximately a quarter of a mile. In a brutal and targeted assault, assailants fired an estimated 50 to 60 rounds into the car. The relentless gunfire resulted in Landfair's death; he was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital. The three other occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries in the attack.
Security footage from the gas station captured some of the last moments of Landfair's life, showing him and his friends getting into a white car. Shortly after they drove away, a separate camera recorded their vehicle being followed by a dark-colored car, which investigators believe carried the suspects. Following the shooting, the victims were chased down the road before they jumped out of their car near an apartment complex and attempted to flee on foot.
As of late 2023, no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide, and authorities were still searching for suspects. The Holmes County Sheriff's Office has indicated that while there were witnesses to the shooting, many have been reluctant to come forward with information. Landfair's mother, Cleopatra Gypson, has expressed her profound grief and frustration with the lack of progress in the investigation into her son's murder. This was the second son she had lost to violence, her first son having been killed in 2017.
