On May 12, 2024, 17-year-old La’Shayia Stewart of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, was tragically found deceased alongside fellow Hazlehurst High School student, 17-year-old Trenarius Dixon. Their bodies were discovered on the southbound side of Interstate 55 near the Gallman exit in Copiah County. Both teenagers had sustained fatal gunshot wounds, and multiple bullet holes were observed in the windows of a vehicle associated with the incident.
