In the quiet community of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, 17-year-old La’Shayia Stewart was known as a student at Hazlehurst High School. Her life, full of the promise of youth, was tragically cut short on Mother's Day, May 12, 2024. On that Sunday morning, the stillness of Interstate 55 near the Gallman exit in Copiah County was broken by a grim discovery. The bodies of La’Shayia and her classmate, 17-year-old Trenarius Dixon, were found on the southbound side of the interstate.
