In the early morning hours of July 28, 2024, the quiet of East First Street in Coahoma, Mississippi, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When deputies from the Coahoma County Sheriff's Department arrived at the scene at approximately 1:13 a.m., they discovered ReShardo Gardner, a Black male, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical aid rendered at the scene, Gardner succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators quickly learned that an argument between Gardner and another
man, Tarrence Jones, had escalated to a fatal shooting. Following the incident, Jones fled, prompting a search by local law enforcement. The following day, on July 29, 2024, Tarrence Jones turned himself in to authorities at the Coahoma County Jail without incident.
Jones has since been charged with First-Degree Murder and Shooting Into a Dwelling in connection with Gardner's death. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Gardner's death marked the 14th homicide in Coahoma County in 2024.
