In a tragic turn of events on a summer evening, 61-year-old Jerry Longacre of Sturgis, Michigan, was killed in a double homicide that also claimed the life of 39-year-old Stacy Ramsey on August 5, 2023.
The suspected perpetrator, 30-year-old David Algarin Jr., is believed to have shot and killed both victims at two separate locations in the Sturgis area.
Authorities have not yet determined a clear motive for the slayings.
Following the discovery of the two victims, law enforcement launched a search for Algarin. He was spotted by Sturgis Police officers on the morning of August 6, leading to a police pursuit involving deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department.
The chase ended in neighboring Branch County, where Algarin was killed in an officer-involved shooting. The investigation into the officer-involved shooting was handed over to the Michigan State Police.
